Tenants
In the Hovi platform, a tenant is an independent entity operating within a decentralized ecosystem, such as an organization, business, or department. Tenants are the primary actors who manage the issuance, verification, and lifecycle of digital credentials within an ecosystem. They are completely separate from each other, ensuring privacy, security, and individualized data management.
Key Features of Tenants in Hovi
- Fully Isolated: Each tenant operates in isolation from other tenants in the same ecosystem. This isolation ensures that all actions, such as issuing or verifying credentials, remain secure and private.
- Organizational Flexibility: Tenants can represent different departments within a single organization (e.g., HR, Finance, Marketing), or they can represent entirely separate organizations within the same ecosystem. This makes it possible for large organizations to manage multiple departments or regional entities securely, each having its own credentials and workflows.
- Creating Credential Issuance and Verification Templates: Tenants are responsible for creating and managing Credential and Verification Templates, which define the structure of digital credentials.
- Credential Issuance and Verification: Tenants can function as issuers, generating and issuing credentials to recipients, who can then store them in digital wallets, such as the Hovi Wallet or supported third-party wallets. Tenants also act as verifiers, requesting proof from credential holders and validating the credentials' authenticity.
Example
Imagine a global fintech company that provides services like digital banking, payments, and insurance. The company sets up multiple tenants within the Hovi platform to manage its various services and regional operations.
- Departmental Tenants: The company creates tenants for different internal departments, such as:
- HR Department: Responsible for issuing employee credentials, such as digital work contracts, tax forms, and access badges.
- Finance Department: Issues credentials for financial transactions, expense reports, and internal auditing records.
- Marketing Department: Manages credentials related to partner promotions and campaign authorizations.
- Regional Tenants: The company also creates tenants for its different geographic regions, each operating in compliance with regional regulations:
- North America Region: Issues region-specific digital banking licenses and insurance credentials that are compliant with local data privacy laws.
- Europe Region: Issues credentials aligned with GDPR and regional financial compliance standards.
Each tenant operates independently, allowing the organization to securely manage credentials and verification workflows within its distinct departments and regions.
